She passed away Wednesday at Careage Campus Of Care in Wayne.

Mary Joyce Sandahl was born December 3, 1929, in Winside to Lloyd and Marjorie (Pinkham) Morris.  She was called Joyce because of so many Mary’s in her Welsh Community. She grew up on a farm west of Carroll and graduated from Carroll High School. She attended Wayne State College, where she met fellow student and future husband Morris “Morrie” Sandahl.  Joyce married Morrie Sandahl February 27, 1949, at the United Methodist Church in Carroll.  They lived on several farms before moving to Carroll and opening a welding business on Main Street.  She raised three children.  Joyce was active in 4-H Club, school boosters, and civic improvement projects.  She helped beautify the town center with a flower garden and participated in the city’s 1986 centennial celebration.  She also worked as a sales representative for the Wayne Morning Shopper.  Joyce and Morrie were zealous and green-thumbed gardeners, focusing mostly on potatoes, tomatoes, and perennial flowers that were submitted for judging each summer at the Wayne County Fair.  They loved their golf, and especially the friends they made and good times they had before and after rounds. Joyce was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and community volunteer.

Joyce is survived by her children, John (Linda) Sandahl of Wakefield, Jennifer (Norman) Draper of Bloomington, MN, and Edward Sandahl of Carroll; five grandchildren, Megan (Brian) Pike, Tammy (Jim) Voison, Jennifer (Brian) Chaney, Sam Draper, and Ed Draper; five great grandchildren; brother, Stanley of Wayne; nieces and nephews.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Morris in 2002; and daughter-in-law, Sue (Krist) Sandahl.
