Wayne State Volleyball Earns #7 Seed For NCAA Central Regional Tournament

For the 11th time in the last 12 years, the Wayne State College volleyball team has advanced to the NCAA Division II National Tournament as the Wildcats were announced Monday evening as the #7 seed for the Central Regional that will be played in St. Paul, Minnesota December 1-3.

The Wildcats are 24-7 on the season and will face #2 seed Southwest Minnesota State (26-5) in a first round match.  NSIC regular season and tournament champion Concordia-St. Paul is the #1 seed in the Central Region and will host the eight-team regional, drawing #8 seed and Great American Conference Tournament champion Southern Nazarene (20-10) in a first round contest.

Other first round pairings find #3 seed and MIAA champion Nebraska-Kearney (35-1) battling #6 seed Augustana (26-5) and #4 seed Minnesota Duluth (25-4) facing #5 seed Winona State (26-5).

Wayne State College ended the regular season ranked eighth in the final AVCA Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll.

WSC and SMSU met twice this season with the Mustangs winning in the regular season (September 17) 3-0 and 3-0 last Saturday in the NSIC Tournament semi-finals in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Game times will be announced sometime Tuesday by tournament host Concordia-St. Paul.
