Tornadoes in Northeast Nebraska 6/16/2014
The diagram above shows the path and destruction sites of the 5 tornadoes that hit Northeast Nebraska on June 16, 2014. The National Weather Service out of Omaha/Valley issued this statement and map in this link. If you look at the map you’ll see the destruction sites in Stanton, Wayne and Dixon counties. 22 homes were destroyed in Wayne County and 13 homes destroyed in Dixon county. At one point the tornado went straight down 585th avenue (near 854th road in Wayne Co.) and hit homes on both sides of the road – from the map you can see that’s where the F4 hit and these homes are flattened and completely blown apart. You’ll also see from the map the length of each of the five tornadoes.
A supercell thunderstorm moved across portions of northeast Nebraska Monday afternoon, 6/16/2014. The storm quickly became tornadic and produced 5 tornadoes (note, the map only shows the 4 strong EF4 tornado tracks, with a direct hit on the town of Pilger, Nebraska, with an estimated population of about 350 people. The area was in a Moderate Risk of severe weather. A tornado watch was issued around 305 pm Monday, and the first tornado warning for the area was issued around 341 pm. The tornado hit Pilger around 418 pm. Each of the four tornadoes were rated as EF4 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale and 1 tornado was rated EF0
